~ Stamp No. 148: Antigua & Barbuda~

See detail, below.

Detail (from the painting itself, not from the stamp) This is interesting in several regards. It's an early depiction of a piper, circa 1460, and the artist, Fillipo Lippi (Italian), seems to have been paying attention to the piper and his pipe, which has a very realistic look about it and is being held in a believable manner. That's often not the case in early paintings. Also interesting is the piper's pal, who is accompanying the pipe with what appears to be a long curved horn of some type.
